Taylor Instrument Companies was started in 1851, when George Taylor and David Kendall began making thermometers and barometers in Rochester, New York. In 1871 the business merged with the firm operated by George’s brother Frank. It was renamed Taylor Bros., and in 1890 became Taylor Bros. Corporation. In 1907, Taylor consolidated and reorganized itself into Taylor Instrument Companies. Between 1907 and 1932 the trade name "Tycos" was used with or instead of Taylor Instrument Companies.
